I am really attached to my Israeli heritage. The mouth-watering smell of falafel, the scorching summer heat and the loud Hebrew chatter are home to me. During the summer of 2022, I got the chance to tour Israel from the Negev desert in the south to the Golan Heights in the north with my Jewish peers; I attempted to unlock the secrets of Petra, Jordan, with my family; and I was able celebrate my beautiful little sister’s introduction into Jewish adulthood (Bat Mitzvah) in Jerusalem. Although this summer brought me many formative cultural experiences, it was not the easiest summer for me. My great grandmother (who called Haifa, Israel home), a brave, honest, determined woman who I called my best friend for many years, passed at age 103 in November of 2021. This trip had been my first time back to Israel since, and I really felt her absence. However, I put this collection together not to demonstrate the sad part of the summer, but to show how I was able to find positivity regardless.
