The Mind and
the Body
From age 7 to 17 I was a member of a competitive gymnastics team. From age 14 to 17, I was a competitive diver. My sister has been a dancer her whole life, my brother is an accomplished hockey goalie, my mom is a talented runner who ran an entire marathon and my dad is a fabulous tennis player. Sports are an integral part of my life and my family’s life, and they have truly shaped me into the person I am today. As a former athlete myself, I understand that sports is very hard on the body - I suffered many injuries including a career-threatening one to my back - but it is often a mental battle too. I experienced this most intensely during my gymnastics career, when frustration and mental blocks were things I knew well. Through this ongoing project, I want to showcase the beauty of sports, while also touching on the mental strength required to be a competitive athlete.
